After installing Leopard & the latest SqueezeCenter 7, I had the same
problem, this is what I did :
    
-  delete the folder "/Library/StartupItems/Slim"
-  in SqueezeCenter Preferences, select "When System Boots"
-  verify that "/Library/StartupItems/SqueezeCenter" has been created
  (if not redo the preceding step)
-  modify permissions for the following file :
  
"/Library/StartupItems/SqueezeCenter/Resources/English.lproj/Localizable.strings"

        sudo chmod 755
