Radio Free Colorado continues to play the great Rock & Roll radio classics from Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, The Eagles, Springsteen, etc. along with more modern rock favorites like U2, R.E.M. and more. You'll find Radio Free Colorado on most radio connoisseur's "best internet radio" lists. Radio Free Colorado has just added a 192 kbps MP3 channel! Radio Free Colorado is *not* a commercial radio station, although the quality of RFC's program is at or above the level of most commercial FM radio stations broadcasting today. Listening to Radio Free Colorado, one is reminded of the late-great FM Rock stations of the 1970's. Radio Free Colorado is a true _Listener_Supported_ radio station. RFC's operating expenses are entirely paid-for by Listener Donations. When I e-mailed the Station Manager to ask about the details of the 192 kbps MP3 channel, Gary said Radio Free Colorado is willing to expand the capacity of the 192 kbps channel to accomodate a greater number of listeners, provided "The listeners support the expense". Will Radio Free Colorado be switching to the 192 kbps bitrate exclusively instead of 128 kbps? I was told that the 192 kbps stream is hosted on "premium bandwidth", meaning that the internet bandwidth the 192 kbps stream is hosted on costs more than the bandwidth for the lower kbps channels. The research I did says that it is indeed a greater task, networking wise, to deliver a trouble-free 192 kbps stream to listeners than a 128 kbps one. Gary also says that persons with higher-quality internet service, not necessarily those with the fastest advertised connection speed, should have no problems receiving Radio Free Colorado's 192 kbps MP3 stream.
