Because when playing local files (MP3, FLAC, etc) it completely fills the SB3 buffer at the beginning of each track and it does so at the maximum data rate. If it didn't do this then there would be much less dropout protection. In an ideal world SlimServer would not rebuffer at the beginning of each track but would begin filling the playback buffer with the next track as soon as there is room in the buffer. I suspect that a change in this behavior might be part of what will eventually allow for sync'd gapless playback, but I'm just speculating. Ben
