this is an excellent idea. I think the current FF/REW is the poorest part of the system. On my SB3 the loud cracking and jumping that often happens makes it virtually unusable. I would agree with the audio mute feature as this would prevent this. Keeping it simple and reliable with just the progress bar would be great.
