OK. Have now tried this and no joy - receiver still shows yellow LED meaning no connection. I have another router (a Draytek 2020N) on order for the weekend (along with another Duet), so using both of these, I should finally be able to determine where the fault lies & if it is hardware, can then advise the retailer when I return the receiver. Skunk, thanks for the suggestion. I do have 4 other PC's at home but they are all running Vista.
