I had a similar problem with my new Duet. Upgrading failed and nothing worked. The PC running Squeezecenter was connected to two different subnets (192.168.10.xxx on WiFi and 192.168.20.yyy wired). I noticed that Squeezecenter status showed the Ip from the wired network and of course the receiver and controller had IP's from the wireless network. Apparantly the connections worked (Squeezecenter could see the receiver), but the update failed. After I disabled the wired network and restarted Squeezecenter with a "WiFi IP" it worked.
