Thanks guys. I've downloaded and installed MediaMonkey. Seems fine. Perceptibly faster, features are about the same - for what I need - may not be for others, but I didn't need all the TV, photo, etc. stuff that MediaCenter layered on. BTW: MediaMonkey "recognizes" my devices reliably and in a third of the time that MC does.
