946 pixels to be exact ... this was based on our traffic statistics which indicated < 1% of traffic using 800x600 or lower resolution. You'll notice the wiki and forums use an expanding width layout. Actually, I initially tried an 800x600 compatible layout, but the consensus was it appeared much too cramped. As everyone knows, the cliche compromise in web design is always between fixed-size/predictable and dynamic-size/less-predictably. We obviously opted for the former in the interest of time and simplicity since the existing content is all fixed size.
