RS232 is only useful for very simple control signaling, and even then it's usually easier to use IR instead. Also, it's too slow to do artist/album browsing and such. For Crestron, you should use IP/Ethernet if your controller supports it. I think there are modules already available that support it. This is about the extent of my Crestron knowledge so you really should talk to your installer about it. We included the RS232 port on Transporter in case someone came up with an application for it, but so far I don't think it's been used for anything.
