Something else is wrong! I've been running SC on a Mac MINI with 2GB RAM for over 1-1/2 years, NEVER turning it off. I'm even running the server at a performance setting of -16 (HIGH) and it never chokes feeding a Transporter and SB3 with unlimited bandwidth. I also stream to my office without hiccups, even with it having to transcode from FLAC or ALAC lossless to MP3 for the streams.
Your MacPro is certainly bounds above my MINI. Can you give us any more info? What version of SC are you running? I had problems with 7.01 (the official) and went back to an earlier Beta version of 7.01 and the problems disappeared.
