I installed a pair of active A5s for my sister in her den nearly a year ago, in a room comparable in size to the one you are planning an installation. The A5s are about 3' from the walls in one of the room's corners. An SB3 drives them directly.
This setup sounds fantastic. You really can have a high-end system for less than a thousand dollars.
