This is a thought-provoking question, and one I am happy to be reminded of whenever it seems relevant. In this case I'm not sure a manual process would save any time. But then, we don't even know for sure how we'll actually be transferring money yet, so it's an open question. As for doing the calculation, any manual process would still be database-based. For me, sql is effortless compared to cursing at a gui. Once it's sql, then, it's already basically automatic. Push-button at worst.
