These are great questions. One good place to get started is to check
out the advice contained in the bc repo on teaching at a bootcamp in
general and teaching the novice Python lessons in particular.

And since you are likely not the only instructor having these
questions (and also since many different instructors will have
different answers), it may be best to keep this discussion continuing
on this list so that everyone can learn from each others' experiences.

Lastly, to address the question of time estimates for teaching the
novice materials, I opened an Issue proposing to add time estimates
for the lessons based on instructors' experiences.
