I'm in the current cohort of students going through the Software Carpentry
instructor training.

In looking at the Software Carpentry curriculum found here:

http://software-carpentry.org/lessons.html

I've noticed that there are many links to the Software Carpentry
curriculum's glossary throughout, when a new term or concept is
introduced. However I see there are no links to external resources to any
additional information built into the curriculum. For example, here's the
Python section where NumPy is introduced:

http://software-carpentry.org/v5/novice/python/01-numpy.html

It follows examples of how to load & manipulate data, but links to the
official NumPy documentation is not included on this page. Another
example is the shell section, when ls and some arguments are introduced...
there is no link to full documentation on all arguments ls can take. Is
there a reason why the SWC curriculum is self-contained in this way?

I can see why you may not want to link to blog posts and such to avoid
unexpected dead links in the future but I'm curious to know why links to
official documentation are omitted.

Thanks!
