I exchanged email with Arfon Smith at GitHub earlier this week, and it looks like setting up a workshop website repository can be made very simple:

1. Go to http://import.github.com.

2. Enter https://github.com/swcarpentry/workshop-template as the URL of the repository you'd like to import from.

3. Enter 2015-01-10-ucdavis (or whatever) as the name of the repository you'd like to create under your account name.

4. Press the button.

5. Done.

The index.html file will still have to be edited, and creators will still want to clone to the desktop to run the checking tool we've built, but this gets rid of the multi-step dance we've been doing (and of the need for the shell script we wrote to do that dance).

Unless someone can spot a flaw, I'll update our docs on Tuesday to describe this.

Thanks Arfon,
Greg
