Hi all, In case you haven't heard, the call for proposals for SciPy 2015 has opened up (and closes April 1). SciPy runs July 6-10 in Austin, Texas. More info at http://scipy2015.scipy.org/.
SciPy is my favorite conference (and not only because of Austin's breakfast tacos) and everyone who uses or is interested in using Python should think about going. And giving a talk! There will be a lot of Software Carpentry people at SciPy and some of us will be delivering a workshop during the tutorials. Maybe we can all organize a session [1] to talk about teaching. I tried to come up with some ideas of talks I think would be useful for the community: http://penandpants.com/2015/03/12/scipy-2015-talk-ideas/ If you have other subjects on which you'd like to see a talk, please add a comment to the post! I'm particularly interested in improving the diversity and beginner friendliness of SciPy. The organizers have laid a good foundation with a Code of Conduct, a Diversity Statement, financial aid, and the tutorials. To pitch in a little myself this year I'm offering proposal editing and talk preparation help to first-time speakers from underrepresented groups. More info at http://penandpants.com/2015/03/12/scipy-2015-talk-help/. Please email me directly if you're interested. Hope to see lots of you at SciPy! Best, Matt [1]: http://scipy2015.scipy.org/ehome/115969/259291/?&
