[apologies for the cross-posting]
The Steering Committee has voted to take SQL out of the list of required
topics that workshops must include in order to use the name "Software
Carpentry". As discussed in
http://software-carpentry.org/blog/2015/03/and-now-we-are-three.html,
this doesn't mean you should stop teaching it if you want to, but that
you can use the time for other things (like more Python or R) if you
think that would be better for your learners. Whatever you do, please
let us know in the instructor debriefing sessions.
That same post asks for volunteers to help us put together lessons on a
couple of other topics. Christina sent mail yesterday to say that she's
assembling some more shell material (see
http://lists.software-carpentry.org/pipermail/discuss_lists.software-carpentry.org/2015-March/002802.html);
if you'd like to help put together a lesson on testing, or on using Make
and other tools to create reproducible workflows, please mail me --- I'm
happy to mentor, and I think it would be a good chance to put some of
the things we've discussed about lesson design into practice.
Thanks,
Greg
