Hi All,

This is a bit different from most of the academic job postings here, but I
hope it will be of interest to some people on this list since we're looking
for experience in academia, particularly Python and R. It might also be of
interest to any PhD students that you're supervising who are not planning
to stay in a research position.

We're looking for the 4th team member to join us on a remote full-time
basis at ShareLaTeX (https://www.sharelatex.com) and DataJoy (
https://www.getdatajoy.com). ShareLaTeX is an online LaTeX editor with over
400,000 registered users, and DataJoy is our new app for online data
analysis with Python and R. We're aiming to make these technologies more
accessible and easier to use for academics doing data analysis, numerical
modelling and statistical analysis.

Your responsibilities will include:

   - Designing and developing the DataJoy product,
   - Making sure that we're building something which is solving genuine
problems faced by researchers in academia and industry,
   - Maintenance and development of the ShareLaTeX product.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas (in rough
decreasing order of priority):

   - Developing web applications, using non-trivial front-end frameworks
(like Angular.js/React/etc) and a back-end involving dynamic data.
   - Using Python and/or R in an academic context, and an awareness of the
problems faced by students/researchers using these tools.
   - Designing HTML/CSS user interfaces which are attractive and easy to
   use.
   - Learning new technologies and ideas quickly.
   - Automated testing.

Our stack is based on Node.js, Coffeescript, MongoDB, Redis and Angular.js,
so experience with these technologies is a plus, but not essential.

The majority of our code is open source, and we maintain a community
edition of ShareLaTeX (https://github.com/sharelatex/sharelatex). As
DataJoy matures we expect to do the same. Much of the code your write will
end up in public, and we want to create a lasting positive legacy beyond
just the business success. This is a full time position, but we believe in
a good work-life balance, and care more about the quality of your output
than the actual hours worked. We all work remotely, so the hours you work
are flexible (so long as there is some reasonable overlap) and differing
timezones can be accommodated to an extent.

You'll be the 2nd non-founder developer to join our team (alongside 2
founders) so you'll have a big say in how ShareLaTeX and DataJoy evolve. We
don't have a firm job role in mind, but rather we're looking for a person
who shares our vision and has something new to bring to the team. The
position is remote, so you can work from wherever you are based (relocation
is not an option at the moment since we have no central office). Salary
will be based on experience, and equity is an option.

If you're interested, please get in touch at this email address (
[email protected]).

Regards,
James
