I've been using it pretty regularly for the pat couple of weeks. I find it very useful for getting a sense of where I am in a repository, particularly one with several collaborative branches. It also has nice creature comforts like simple keyboard shortcuts for mundane tasks such as editing commit messages. It would be useful for teaching because it stays out of the way until you need it, but is always available as a point of reference.
