Hey all, *Tomorrow* (Thursday June 25) at *11am ET / 8am PT* we'll be holding our monthly project call to discuss our prototyping projects. This month, we'll be looking at the contributions made during our recent #mozsprint on the *Contributorship Badges for Science prototype* (Paper Badger). *WHAT*: Project call for Paper Badger <http://github.com/mozillascience/paperbadger> (recent updates, get involved, get help) *WHEN*: *tomorrow*, June 25, 11am ET *PAD*: https://etherpad.mozilla.org/sciencelab-project-call-june25 *HANGOUT LINK*: https://plus.google.com/events/cm470o4ia8kja7hiacli36pos6o *Note: this call will be recorded*
Have a question, update or want to get involved in building this prototype with us? Leave a note in the etherpad <https://etherpad.mozilla.org/sciencelab-project-call-june25>! So far, we'll be discussing some recent contributions including testing (supertest, nock, more), ORCID authentication, React and Habitat from Austin Davis-Richardson <http://twitter.com/heyaudy>, Will Simpson <https://twitter.com/wjrsimpson>, Robert Peters <http://twitter.com/rcpeters> and Ali Al Dallal <https://twitter.com/alicoding>. This call is for designers, developers, researchers, publishers and anyone interested in participating or learning more about the project. We could use all sorts of input on this (beyond just code), so if you’re new to open source, come join us – we’d love to have you involved. Hope to see you there! Abigail Cabunoc Mayes Lead Developer, Mozilla Science Lab @abbycabs / @acabunoc ------------------------------------ What are Contributorship Badges for Science? The Contributorship Badges project was announced late last year <http://www.mozillascience.org/contributorship-badges-a-new-project/> as a collaboration testing out the use of badges as a standardized digital credential for the work done by each author on an academic article. Since then, we’ve starting building a prototype <http://paperbadger.herokuapp.com/> (PaperBadger) that uses Mozilla’s Open Badges <http://openbadges.org/> infrastructure to store and issue badges to an author’s ORCID <http://orcid.org/> (a unique researcher identifier) based on their contribution to a paper published by BioMed Central <http://www.biomedcentral.com/> (BMC) or Public Library of Science <https://www.plos.org/> (PLoS). The badges awarded are based on the 14-role author contribution ‘taxonomy’ <http://dictionary.casrai.org/Contributor_Roles> being developed by the Wellcome Trust <http://www.wellcome.ac.uk/index.htm>, Digital Science <http://www.digital-science.com/> and others. The Mozilla Science Lab is leading development on this prototype We're encouraging researchers to contribute code, design and suggestions to experience being part of an open source project.
