Hi everyone,
I am currently working on a short book (~ 100 pages) about computation
for scientists, which will be published by IOP (Institute of Physics) to
start a new series on computational science. The intended audience is
scientists who use computational techniques but have no formal training
in them - the typical physicist, chemist, or biologist who has picked up
competence in computing "on the job". If that sounds like the
typical bootcamp participant, that's no coincidence!
In fact, I see this book as targeting the same audience as Software
Carpentry but with a different (complementary) goal. Whereas SWC is
about practical hands-on experience, my book is about the minimal
theoretical background that I believe computational scientists should
have.
I wonder if some of you would like to read my draft and provide feedback
for improving the final version. At this time, I have about 2/3 of the
draft ready and I expect to finish one more chapter this month. The two
final (short) chapters are my summer project for August.
Best regards,
Konrad.
