Dear all, I am rapidly finding myself in a situation where I need to hire people for course development and instruction, and help others do the same. For the time being, I've started a job board here (it will eventually move to the D-Lab's forthcoming static site):
http://bead.glass/jobs More immediately (and not yet on the job board), we are going to be doing a corporate training gig on teaching analysts to work effectively in a multi-user shared server environment. The system is a Power8 AIX machine (so, not quite linux, but we can help you get up to speed), with a focus on SAS (via SAS Studio), but also some R. The content of the training will be mainly navigating command-line interfaces (including configuration), basic code editing, organizing data, code, and jobs effectively, and a healthy dose of git. *This unix environment focused corporate training would be 9-noon August 10-12*. We already have a few instructors, but could use 1-2 more. *We especially need Python trainers for Berkeley grad students, as early as August 17*. This would include SWC style training, as well as topic-focused modules (e.g., web scraping, graphics, etc.). As implied by the title, the D-Lab pays people for their time, and we can always use more instructors in our "bull pen." The corporate gig above would be compensated a bit better than usual (we're still working out the details of our budget, but feel free to inquire / make demands). You also get to hang out in the D-Lab and play with cool stuff (assuming you're into data intensive social science). I'm hoping such opportunities are of interest to the community, and I welcome additional jobs that we can post from the D-Lab (& Glass Bead Labs) - especially in the form of pull requests ;) -- Dav Clark Data Scientist Berkeley D-Lab + BIDS bead.glass 917-544-8408
