Thanks. Much appreciated.

   body{font-family:Helvetica,Arial;font-size:13px} Hi Cam,

I just fired up my workstation running OSX 10.6.8, updated Anaconda to
v2.3 and then opened an ipython notebook, did some basic numpy and
plotting stuff and everything seemed to work as expected. No promises
that there won’t be other hiccups, but it seems to work ok, despite the
claim to need OSX 10.7+.

  Good luck with the workshop.

    Hi Josh,

Yes, please do let me know if it works on your old workstation. That
will simplify the learner’s part. Our python lesson is in the afternoon
so I’ll have to time to sort it out with them in the morning.

  Thanks,
  Cam

   Hi Cam,

I have an old machine that still running 10.6.8, and although I
haven’t powered it up since early June, I seem to remember running a
fairly recent version of Anaconda (2.0 or 2.1) on it without issue. I
remember reading that the Anaconda installer gives this warning about
only supporting newer versions of OSX, but I don’t remember it being a
problem.

Before using, what is now, an outdated version of Anaconda, if
possible I would check with the learner if they could attempt to
download the newest version of Anaconda and check that it works. I’m not
sure if that’s feasible in terms of asking them to start up an ipython
notebook.

I can try turning on my old workstation tonight and grabbing the
newest anaconda and then loading up a few of the lesson notebooks though
and see if they work myself. That might avoid the issue of asking the
learner to validate their own environment.

     Hello,

I have a learner who has emailed ahead of a workshop that they have OS
X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). The Anaconda installer says it is for OS X
10.7 and above. I had a quick look but couldn’t find older releases of
Anaconda.

Does anyone happen to know if Anaconda will work on older versions of
OS X? I don’t have an OS X of that vintage to test myself.

  Thanks,
  Cam
