Personally I prefer using Kahoot over Socrative for an interactive quiz
involving a room.
The subtle differences in engagement are that Kahoot does a good job of
centralising attention on the main screen.
A built in pause before the answers are displayed improves consideration of the
answer, and the way answers are displayed ensures the focus remains on a
central screen.

Socrative is probably superior for at your own pace self assessment.

I have not used either in a *Carpentry setting yet, but it is worth considering
what your educative aim is. In other contexts I have found a Kahoot quiz a
great way to regather groups from individual work and redevelop cohesion for
discussion or new instruction.

Regs,
Matt
