I've been working with Software Carpentry for a little over three months
now (and more recently with Data Carpentry as well). I've been really
excited to see how many workshops we've been able to organize and how
many volunteer instructors we've been able to engage. We've run many
workshops that are commissioned by host sites as well as those that are
initiated by you, the instructors, at your own universities or research
institutions.
While it's great to see instructors take the lead on running their own
workshops, the workshops are still part of Software Carpentry and Data
Carpentry. So we still need to know all the details when you organize
one. If you are organizing a workshop, please let me know at least a
few weeks in advance so I can help you make sure all the pieces of
workshop organization are in place.
Additionally, Software Carpentry Steering Committee elections are coming
up (more details on that soon). To vote, you must be a member, which
means you must have taught at least twice in the past two calendar years
(http://software-carpentry.org/scf/governance.html). If we don't know
about your workshops, we can't document what you've done and we may not
consider you a voting member. Additionally, as our program grows we
want to identify and credit our most active members, so again, we need
documentation of what you've done.
We want your voices heard - as voting members and active participants in
the Software Carpentry and Data Carpentry communities - so please let me
know when you are planning something so we can work together on it.
Thanks!
Maneesha
