Hi all,

Passing on a sessional job opportunity to teach a course on computer
programming to undergraduates at Quest in Squamish, BC (near Vancouver). I
taught a computation in science course there in Nov and had a great
experience. Info on this course and how to apply is below (and I'm happy to
answer any questions). Full disclosure, I have no role in the hiring
process.

Best,
Tiffany

Opportunity to teach a course:

We’re looking for a visiting instructor to teach a course called “Computer
Programming” from February 8 to March 2 of 2016. At Quest, we teach in 3.5
week blocks, with 3 contact hours per day (the equivalent of a semester
long course), plus office hours. Classes are capped at 20 students, and
students take only one course at a time. We use a variety of teaching
methods in the classroom (as opposed to 3 hours of straight lecture). The
content of the course would be up to the instructor, as would the readings,
activities, etc. The current course description is below, but we can
modify this (e.g. you don’t have to use Java). The remuneration for those
holding a PhD is $6000 (and slightly less for those without a PhD). We
also provide housing on campus for the duration of the block.

course description (open to some modification):
This course explores the fundamental concepts and techniques used to
design, implement and test computer programs. Students will use the Java
programming language to explore commonly implemented algorithms and learn
how to write understandable and efficient programs. Topics covered in this
course will include object-oriented programming, data structures, arrays
and recursion. This course is appropriate to everyone who wants to create
software. No prior computing experience is required.
