Hi,
Edthena (see below) has given us a trial license for six months for up
to 50 people, and I'd like to ask if you would be willing to:
1. set up an account (only takes a moment)
2. leave some comments on a test video that I've uploaded (ditto)
3. comment on a couple of other videos I'm going to upload next week
4. upload a short video of yourself (more on this below) for others to
comment on (optional)
5. take some time on the evening of Monday, Feb 22, to comment on a few
videos uploaded by participants in the instructor training session we'll
be running at UC Davis
Regarding #4, you could record a couple or three minutes of yourself
using a Flip cam or a cellphone the next time you're teaching or
speaking and upload that for other people to comment on, or upload a
short clip (2-5 minutes) that you already have. As noted below, only
people in our group will be able to see your video.
As for #5, one of the most common pieces of feedback from live
instructor training sessions is that people want more commentary on
*their* teaching - when we have them record each other for 2-3 minutes,
they get feedback from their peers, but there isn't time for the
trainers to go through all those videos. If they can upload their clips
on day 1, we could (possibly?) get feedback from the community overnight
for them to view on day 2. The logistics will be a bit complicated - we
only have 50 seats, which we can't share between people - but if the
idea proves a good one, we can always find a way to expand it.
I'm pretty excited by this - I think it'll do a lot to help with the
quality of our teaching, and to build community - but I realize it's a
busy time of year for many of you. If you can spare the time, please
give me a shout and I'll get you set up.
Thanks,
Greg
Background: Edthena (http://www.edthena.com) lets teachers upload short
videos of their teaching (typically 2-10 minutes long) so that other
teachers can give them feedback and pick up their good practices. A key
feature is that videos are only visible to group members, so they're not
subject to drive-by commentary abuse; another is that they have some
nice tools for adding and reviewing comments.
