Hi everyone,
The Pandas project is looking for a volunteer willing to act as mentor
for a Google Summer of Code project to build a Python module for reading
and writing RData files. You would need to be familiar with both Python
and R, and willing to spend half an hour to an hour a week from late May
to the end of August coaching the student doing the actual work - see
[0] for details.
I've been a mentor several times, and have found it very rewarding - if
you're interested, next steps are included below.
Cheers
Greg
Google Summer of Code Project: Python RData Reader / Writer
Pandas <https://github.com/pydata/pandas> [1] would love to have
`read_rdata` and `to_rdata` methods for reading and writing RData
files, the binary serialization format used to store R objects. If
anyone is interested in working on this project, either as a student
volunteer or a mentor, please reach out on the pydata mailing list [2]
<https://groups.google.com/forum/#%21forum/pydata>. We’ve also started
a page on our wiki
<https://github.com/pydata/pandas/wiki/Google-Summer-of-Code> [3] with
more information.
