Here is the capstone exercise that Karl Broman and I provided for the last
afternoon of a workshop (R, not Python, but maybe it'll still help with
ideas):

Karl taught the basics of knitr/R Markdown and then the capstone was to
create a reproducible report of the Gapminder dataset. Most people didn't
get through the whole thing, but there was enough that the more advanced
learners didn't run out of things to work on.
