Hi,
Thanks to a lot of hard work from Bennet Fauber and others, we have
revised our outline of a new lesson on Python using Pandas and the
gapminder data. The repository is at
https://github.com/swcarpentry/python-novice-gapminder/, and the
rendered version is at
http://swcarpentry.github.io/python-novice-gapminder/. Peter van
Heusden and others have already taught a workshop using a slightly
earlier version of these notes, and we would be very grateful for
feedback from the community about the level, pace, order, and everything
else.
This lesson is intended for people with no previous formal training in
programming: they may have picked up a bit of CPSD (copy, paste, swear,
and despair), but they do not yet have a mental model of loops or
functions. Two of the episodes (one on variable scope, one on style)
may be cut if time runs short, but we believe (well, we *hope*) that
it'll be possible to get through everything else in one day. Please let
us know what you think by filing issues, submitting PRs, or just sending
mail (to me rather than this list in order to keep volume down).
Cheers,
Greg
