5th Workshop on Sustainable Software for Science: Practice and Experiences
(WSSSPE5.2) Call for Submissions
(http://wssspe.researchcomputing.org.uk/wssspe5/)
Location: Auckland, New Zealand
Dates: 1 day workshop during IEEE eScience<http://escience2017.org.nz/>, 24-27
October, Auckland, New Zealand
WSSSPE<http://wssspe.researchcomputing.org.uk/> is an international
community-driven organization that promotes sustainable research software by
addressing challenges related to the full lifecycle of research software
through shared learning and community action. WSSSPE5.2 is the seventh workshop
convened since 2015 in an international series that provides opportunities for
the community to come together to share and advance practices.
WSSSPE5.2 aims to facilitate the creation of a regional community focussed on
sustainable research software, by sharing and building best practice both
locally and internationally. The workshop will discuss topics relevant to
building a sustainable future for open-use research software and the activities
that are needed to get there. This includes discussion of practices and
experiences in sustainable scientific software, with the goal of improving the
quality of today’s research software and the experiences of its developers by
sharing practices and experiences.
Submission of abstracts: 30 June, 2017
Submission types and formats:
* Lightning talks: a short paper, up to 2 pages, that if accepted can be
conveyed in a 5 to 7 minute talk.
* Full paper: a long paper, up to 10 pages, that can be presented in a 15
minute talk.
Both types of talks may be based on novel or previously published work, present
a position on what we can do to improve sustainable scientific software in the
short term, or discuss experiences in sustainable scientific software,
specifically discussing current practices and experiences and how they have
been used to improve the quality of today’s research software and/or the
experiences of its developers.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
* Development and Community
* Best practices for developing sustainable software
* Case studies of building regional WSSSPE communities
* Models for funding specialist expertise in software collaborations
* Software tools that aid sustainability
