Hello Software Carpentry Instructors! I am finishing up my doctoral work at the UVA Curry School of Education and am currently collecting data for my capstone project. My research is investigating the alignment between the research lifecycle in biomedical research and library support services. A significant portion of my work focuses on the role of computational software skill training needed due to emerging practices of science. I am emailing today to solicit participation in an interview that will last approximately one hour. I would very much like to include the perspective of researchers involved with SWC. Particularly of interest are biomedical researchers who are postdocs, graduate students, or recipients of NIH K awards.
Below is the official solicitation. Please let me know if you are interested in participating or have any questions. Bart I write to ask for your participation in a study of library support of biomedical research workflows. The purpose of the study is to investigate how health sciences libraries can expand their role in supporting knowledge creation within the research lifecycle. Your contribution to this research is very important. My small sample population comprises of well-established biomedical principal investigators, early career investigators, and research trainees. Given your academic and research background, you are well positioned to contribute to our understanding of research workflows and emerging practices in science. The study may strengthen what is known about the types of support needed by biomedical researchers and the efficacy of support services provided by health sciences libraries. I would like to interview you regarding your research workflow. The interview will last 60 minutes and be conducted though video conferencing software. Your interview will be audio recorded and transcribed. You will have an opportunity to review the transcription and provide feedback. To assure confidentiality, I will not refer to you by name in the data analysis and final report. Researchers will be assigned pseudonyms. Upon completion of the study, audio files created during your interview will be destroyed. Please let me know at your earliest convenience if you can participate. I am happy to respond to any questions you may have. The University of Virginia Institutional Review Board approved this study. I look forward to hearing from you.
