Hi Kari,

I ran a 1 day workshop for the American Astronomical Society conference in
January. Echoing others, what you chose to include is pretty specific to your
audience. We chose to tailor the workshop to a beginning audience who was
familiar with basic shell navigation and likely had seen some programming
language (although not Python). Our schedule is here:

<https://abostroem.github.io/2017-01-03-aas/>
We basically cut some of the shell lesson and remote git and trimmed down the
Python lesson (materials here:
https://github.com/abostroem/2017-01-03-aas/blob/gh-pages/python/master_plan.ipynb

Overall, we got good feedback although I prefer the 2 day format. A few
thoughts on things to think about next time:
In the interest of time we cut a lot of the exercises, especially in the shell
section. I would cover less material with more exercises next time. Although
students are following along, they absorb the material much better when they
are asked to apply it.
I wish we had gotten to remote git. I think there is a lot of power in being
able to sync machines, work with collaborators, and eventually, possibly
contribute to an open source project.
It was even harder to navigate the range of levels in the condensed format.
