Hi everyone,
Data Carpentry's new pre and post surveys have been added to our workshop template. These surveys include skills-based questions and the ability for learners to choose a unique identifier so that we can run paired analyses. Let me stress the importance of our pre and post-workshop surveys. We know anecdotally that our workshops help learners improve their skills and confidence. However, without hard data that shows we indeed enable learners to quickly apply the skills they learn in their own research, we run the risk of missing out on opportunities to affect change in the data science space. We need our instructors to encourage learners to complete these surveys. Here are a few ideas, and I'd love for you to share more: - Include the survey links in both your introductory and post-workshop follow-up e-mails. - Ask learners to arrive 15 minutes early to complete the pre-survey, and stay a few minutes after to complete the post-survey. - Add the survey links to your workshop Etherpad or Google Doc. - Express how these surveys push learners to take responsibility for their own learning. Thank you so much for your involvement and support. Enjoy the rest of your summer! Kari -- Kari L.
