Hi all, Please see the workshop advertisement below:
There are currently many labs with already-generated gene expression data sets that could benefit from further analysis. We propose a workshop hosting experts in the teaching of transcriptomic data analysis to provide a hands-on learning experience to attendees in order to further the analysis of these interdisciplinary data sets. To this end, we propose a hands-on transcriptomic workshop which will teach necessary tools and techniques to researchers, effectively enabling complex analysis on RNAseq data sets. This workshop will include topics such as: an introduction to library preparation and de novo transcriptome assembly with an emphasis on non-model organisms, differential gene expression analysis, and tools for more complex downstream interpretation of results, such as transcriptional regulatory network analysis. Our unique approach will utilize the majority of funding for data analysis of students’ existing datasets, as opposed to the generation of new gene expression data sets. A majority of the grant (if selected), will be used for funding workshop instructor’s travel. Therefore, we are trying to identify faculty that are well-qualified in transcriptomic data analysis, but also have experience in leading successful workshops within this field. In addition to identifying faculty members that would be interested in leading a portion of the workshop, we would appreciate any scientific advice for our proposal. The deadline for the final proposal is September 8th, I would be more than happy to supply the Letter of Intent or a rough draft of the proposal to anyone that is interested. It would greatly increase the validity of our proposal if we could identify faculty of interest for the proposal. Please feel free to contact myself or my colleague Rebecca Kimmelfield ( [email protected]) with any questions!
