Hi all, One of our new partner sites, West Virginia University is planning a meeting with the Southern Demographic Association in October. They are looking for a speaker to present on big data in social sciences. Please see details below and contact them directly (not me!) if you're interested or have any questions.
Maneesha Sane Software Carpentry: https://software-carpentry.org/ Data Carpentry: http://www.datacarpentry.org/ =============================================================== The Southern Demographic Association is a scientific and educational organization, incorporated under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is comprised of people with professional interests in demography and population studies. SDA's membership includes, but is in no way limited to, demographers with professional or personal ties to the southern United States. SDA welcomes and encourages the participation of individuals, and the study of demographic topics, from any region or country. This is the first year that SDA's meeting will be held in West Virginia, so we are trying something new with the Pre-Conference Workshops on Wednesday, October 25. We are anticipating about 15-20 people. We had arranged for another group to come in and talk about what big data can do for social scientists, with an emphasis on demographers. That group just notified us last week that they had double-booked themselves. So we are trying to ease their burden by finding a replacement. We would like to have a workshop on Big Data in the morning 9:00-12:00pm, followed by lunch 12:00-1:00pm, and then another workshop with a scheduled speaker on NIH grants. We will have A/V set up and a live stream of the workshop which will then be available online. We don't have a strict outline or requirements for what we would like from you, so you will have some creative liberty topically. Our initial budget included travel and registration expenses for two speakers, but we might be able to adjust if need be. */* * Jeralynn S.
