I've just finished Major, Harris, and Zakrajsek's "Teaching for Learning", and recommend it highly - it's a catalog of 101 different kinds of exercises teachers can use to promote learning, organized thematically with references to the evidence backing up their effectiveness.  I don't think it should be anyone's first book about evidence-based teaching, but I haven't found a better second.
