I have found value in both Linked-in and Facebook, the latter personally. If you're going to join Facebook, you need to be aware of the potential stupidities and dangers.
One is the obvious -- don't post things you don't want your boss/potential boss to see. Another is the add ons and applications, many of them done by 3rd parties. They can, if you are not careful, spam your "address book" (should you have one) or online "friends". Most of them have a "skip this" part to anything that asks, "Do you want to spam the known universe?" and applications that come out that do not have the opportunity to "skip" tend to get removed (by user demand, no less). Yet many of them hide the "skip this" and you have to look for it, which is annoying. That said, I've found Facebook a great way to get and keep in touch with people I haven't seen or heard from in over 20 years. And some of the applications are cute. Linked-In has helped me find leads while job hunting although, admittedly, none have worked out... yet. :) Moose _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
