I just found another big point in Zabbix' favour. It is able to send
decoupled information as part of a particular notification. For
example I track my UPS battery minutes remaining and I track whether
my UPS is actually on battery as 2 totally separate data points
leading to triggers, alarms etc.

If I detect an UPS on battery event I can look up any information in
the zabbix database that i want and send it along - in this case the
UPS minutes remaining. Compare this to the standard "help - Im on
battery" alert that you get every 5 minutes with no further info
(without logging in).

In the same way if you have 2 servers for load balancing and one goes
critical, zabbix could send you the status of the other server as part
of the alert message for this first. This is pretty nice! It may
well exist in other systems, but I was happy to trip over it.
