But frankly, in even a short few years over here, I've come across enough companies who would abuse contract-to-hire to make me think it'd be a rotten deal for anyone who wasn't an employer (which is the vast majority of us, if we're being frank about it). I've seen good companies where it would be a good idea, certainly; but I've also seen cases which were dodgy (as in, high court fraud case dodgy), and where contract-to-hire would translate as "hire someone at lower pay for three months, then fire them and hire someone new for three months at lower pay and repeat ad infinitum". And for those with families, the three months on contract-to-hire would be three months of living on job interview nerves. Not good for your mental health, that. -- Mark Dennehy
