gabe,

Why not just remove the user through accounts? I believe there is a remove in that dialog. Failing that, There's a command line to remove and add users but I don't know what it is.

But my ultimate goal is to remove a user, would it be just changing the pw
for now and removing the home dir of the user?

Gabe, I believe that there is a pass words list and that if a user
quallifies that account can be accessed and the folder may well be
recreated. The one sure way to delete a user is through accounts as
admin. If you press the remove button while you are admin, that
account will no longer be accessible but the user folder may still be
there.

Your creat syntax is correct, but I believe there are commandline as
well as gui ways to do this. In accounts, you can "creat" a user.

So what you are saying is that by removing the users home directory they
won't be able to log in or anything anymore?
so then in affect, how do you create a user, the same way?
mkdir /users/newuser?
is this syntax correct?

Gabe and all,

You need to enable root if it is not enabled already. This is done
in netinfo manager which you can find in applications under
utilities. In the security menu, click the enable root item. If you
get a message saying you need to creat a root password, there is a
menu item which allows for this. Once that's been done, you can
launch terminal, login root, press enter and type your pass word.

Once you are logged on as root, type cd /users and press enter. Type
ls to get a list of everything in that folder and rm followed by the
name of the folder you wish to remove.

Of course, in accounts in the gui, you can change a user name if you
are logged onto the mac as admin.

Scott and all,

as root, you can do anything you like. I've renamed users and moved
some things around and even deleted users just by removing the
folders. It is done in terminal though.

Just curious, I know in my reading that you can't rename user's home

stuff from one user's account to another, I am thinking about mail

but I'm wondering if just moving the library directory or even the
entire contents of a user's directory to a new users's directory is
possible. Yes, really I know it sounds crazy, but I'm curious if this
is possible and there is a reason for my maddness.
