doc right? How do you get the item into the doc in the first place
without first opening it?
Thanks!

It should move based on the repeat rate. So if you hold it down the
option
arrow key it will move till it hits the end of a section in the
Dock. You
should here a beep when you get to the end of a section.

Hi
Now that is just too cool, thanks for posting this. I had no idea
this was even possible. One question about it though, it seems I can
only move the icon one position at a time, that is, press option
+arrow, then I must release option arrow before I can do it again--if
I don't, it moves the icon to the right or left, depending on the
direction, of the icon I'm actually trying to move. Is this the
normal behavior?

You can also move around items in your dock with full keyboard
access.
ctrl-f3
arrow till you are over the item you want
option arrow moves it arround.
