Yes the only way I've been able to in any way read a full card was by clicking the "edit card." Kind of a pain, but not the only adress book I've ever had trouble with in the past either.

If you'd really like to mess with the Address Book, choose the Address Book from your Dock, then interact with the Table of addresses. You can then double-click with the individual or stop intereacting with the Table then checking out the card for that individual. I believe that you need to press the Edit button in order to be able to copy the specific field such as the eMail address but I ould be mistaken.
