Hi Dan, Gordon, David, and others,
In addition to the link that Gordon gives to the Apple Knowledge
Base article at: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302810
a good site to check for information when there are updates is the
macfixit site at http://www.macfixit.com/ They collect reports of
readers reactions to installations along with problems and
workaround solutions. And they list the changes that are reported
in the Knowledge Base articles when upgrades and updates occur.
On the current home page, searching for the link labeled:
"Apple releases Mac OS X 10.4.4 and Mac OS X 10.4.4 Server"
under Previous coverage takes you to a list of the information that
appears in Gordon's link to the Apple page.
When there are upgrades, and major software updates or security
patches, this is a good site to check to see whether anyone reports
associated problems before applying the update. If you've found
a problem, you can check here to see whether someone who has
had a similar problem has reported a workaround.
Site pages stay available to non-subscribers for three days after
they're posted. They also release a short podcast titled "A Quick Fix
from MacFixIt,com" every few days. See their podcast information
page at: http://www.macfixit.com/podcast/ or use their
RSS feed: http://www.macfixit.com/quickfix.rss with your
podcasting client to subscribe.
Another good source of information on upgrades and updates are
the macintouch web page reader reports. These tend to focus
on specific and technical issues and are good for troubleshooting.
I find some items can be hard to find from the main page
http://www.macintouch.com/ Here are some of the links to reader
report discussions on
the new Intel iMacs: http://www.macintouch.com/imacintel.html
the MacBook Pro: http://www.macintouch.com/macbookpro.html
Mac OS X 10.4.4: http://www.macintouch.com/tiger43.html
and iTunes 6.0.2: http://www.macintouch.com/itunes32.html#jan11
Cheers,
Esther

Hi,
As many times as I've used the updater, I for whatever reason never
bothered reading the html section. Well, that's what I git I suppose.
Hey, thanks for the information.
Actually what I was thinking was this. That it should be a help item.

dan,
In Software update when you interact with the Table of updates
available, you can select the MacOS update, stop interacting with
it then move to the HTML content. Once you interact with the HTML
content it will outline a very brief explanation of the various
updates in that update. It also makes reference to a web address
that gives more detail of those updates. I'm not sure of the exact
address but I'm sure that you'd find reference to it on Apple's
website if you searched on the support site. Probably not exactly
what you were looking for but it's a start.
