msn for the first time.

Greetings. I installed msn, got it working but need a few tips for  
reading the message window if anyone has them.
I have to read the whole window each time i get a message is that  
right? I hope not.
I looked up shortcuts but didn't find anything of much use. I know  
there are probably things in the archives but it's so much to sort  
through i just cant deal with it on top of everything else.
If you can help it's much appreciated.
