Sorry for the confusion. I was responding to your statement:
" I use audio hijack pro now for everything from microphone
recording to daily alarms" and wondering what you were
using for a microphone with your iMic. Scott mentioned
wanting to try recording podcasts. This is generally limited
by the quality of the microphone, and the built-in microphone
of the iMac and the PowerBook and iBook laptops isn't
really designed for this.

The Samsung microphone review I came across was
something a couple of computer magazines mentioned for
budding podcasters wanting a good microphone.

That model happens to have a USB input connection. The
reviewer intrroduces it:

"Samson Technology, well known for its audio products,
recently entered the Mac market with a unique USB
microphone that bridges the gap between Griffin's inexpensive i
Mic USB audio adapter at the low end and the far more
expensive microphones and audio interfaces used by
audio professionals."

The concluding paragraph was making the point that, although
at $79.95 this unit was about twice the price of an iMic, they thought it
was a good deal because you'd get superior audio quality and
you'd have to buy a separate input microphone for the iMic,
anyway. So that, short of getting a more expensive recording
setting, this gave good results.

The larger excerpt from the concluding paragraph:

"We weren't sure what we'd get with a product this innovative
at a price this low, but the Samson C01U lived up to the high
expectations set by its specifications and description. If you
need to record high-quality audio into your Mac on a tight
budget, this is a great solution. The C01U is far cheaper than
a USB or FireWire audio interface in conjunction with a
high-quality microphone. Ditto for an analog pre-amp and
microphone, which can suffer from issues with the quality of
Mac audio inputs, laptop power supplies and electrical noise
generated by the Mac. And a Griffin iMic may look cheaper than
the C01U, but it's not in the same league sound-wise, and you
have to buy an additional mic to go with it (despite its
confusing moniker)."

Hope that covers things. I've only used my iMic to record from
tape, or from an external CD source in the case of a
problematic audio CD. I haven't used a microphone at all.
