I don't dispute that for a second. But that isn't the only reason why I decided to use Rumpus, rather than the OSX in-built server. For instance, using Rumpus, it is possible to have multiple users all with different access levels to different folders. Upload/Download ratios, temporary accounts, access to designated areas via HTML with a customised template or templates. Remote administration if required. Secure SSL encryption. Lots of reasons like that. I do see your point, and yes, maybe one day I'll play around in the area of scripting.

Not to disagree here, and feel free to ignore this message entirely,
but I'd imagine you can reproduce your ftp's behavior of sending
emails simply by attaching finder actions to incoming directories.
Someone drops a file in the incoming directory, and an email could
automatically be generated to let the administrator know a new file
has arrived. You could script all sorts of things based on contents
that shows in logs with a combination of grep, and apple scripts.
Now, can the built-in ftp server do these things? Yes it can. Can it
do it out of the box? No, it can't. However, it *could* be made to
do these things, and that my friends is the power of OSX.
