Thanks for the tip. A less direct way of doing this is to interact with the first of two unknowns in the printer dialog, press vo keys with space on the first of two unknowns in the changed window and save as pdf will be the first choice in the popup. I wouldn't have found this without your tip though but could have sworn that I'd not seen it yesterday.

When in the Print dialog, use the Item Chooser menu (VO keys+i) then arrow down to the first "Unknown" and press return. then press VO keys+shift+space to bring up the pop-up menu. Using the Preview option works as well as it brings you into the Preview app from which point you can save your document as a PDF.
