I found that if you use vlc there's a menu option to open a disk. I
think this is usually used to play a cd. However, you can put in a
path and vlc will recursively play whatever it finds. I put in /
Volumes/External/Music (so it wouldn't play audiobooks or dramatic
audio or other directories I have organized) and it found a directory
and started playing; the name of what I'm playing as I have it named
shows up and you can change the order of what's being played by
renaming files or directories. You can go back and forth to previous
and next tracks with command and left and right arrows; you can I
believe randomize though I haven't tried that yet. So if you just
want to play all the music on your hard drive or in a certain
directory and know what's being played, I'd say this is the way to
go. Very nice!!!
