Same thing here. Tried again a bit this morning to recreate the
problem Jane and Dave reported...but no dice.

Regarding the Safari Downloads Window:
There are always three items available for VO in the Safari
Downloads Window.
One of those items is always a list. This, as you know, is the
list of files downloaded or in the process of downloading.
If you are in the process of downloading a file, the file you
are downloading is added to the Downloads Window List.
If you attempt to Quit Safari while a download is in progress
- Safari will present you with a message dialog which reads:
"A download is in progress. Are you sure you wan to quit?
If you select "Don't Quit" the file will immediately resume
downloading.
As long as the file is downloading, VO will let you know that
the "Download is in progress" when you navigate to the
Downloads Window. If you interact with the group for the
downloading file you will have the following information
available to you:
1. Name of the file
2. File icon button
3. Stop Button
4. Show in Finder Button
5. Amount of file already downloaded vs. total download size.
While download is progress, VO will also play a "ticking"
noise whenever you select the download progress information
(cool feature!).
If the above information is not available to you, file
download is complete.
I'm not sure what you mean by "checking the desktop." A file
placeholder is always placed on the desktop (or wherever
you're downloading) so there's no help there and no indication
from VO as to download progress when you check the file on t
he desktop.
I suspect that you are downloading a small file. When you Quit
Safari and then cancel the Quit (as you described) the small
file finishes downloading before you navigate back to the
Downloads Window...and there lies the source of the confusion.
If the file download is complete the following information
will be available when you interact with Downloads Window list
group - then interact with the group for the downloaded file:
1. Name of the file
2. File icon button
3. 'Show in Finder' Button
4. Size of the downloaded file

quitting and I go back into the downloads window, I get a
three items button, but nothing else. The only way I know at
that point if the file is done is by constantly checking the

can't get at it, the window might as well be closed. Might
put this in as an enhancement to Safari, VO, or both.
